If you want to score 20 plus in English Section of IBPS
PO exam then you should get yourself familiarized with new question patterns
that have been asked in recent exams. The expected topic-wise marks
distribution is: - Reading Comprehension (10 Questions), Cloze Test/Fill Ups (5
to 10 Questions), Sentence Improvement/ Phrase Replacement (5 to 10 Questions),
and Error Spotting (5 Questions).
In this blog, we will discuss strategy topic-wise -
Reading Comprehension :
1. You should first properly read
questions and then try to identify keywords. Thereafter, do read the passage,
while looking for keywords given in the question. (specially in IBPS PO EXAM).
2.
On the basis of the context, do try
to guess the meaning of difficult words. Do read the previous and following
sentences to guess the meaning of these words and eliminate options that are
based on positive or negative context.
3.
You should try to learn the
difference between logical, admiring, decisive, thoughtful, retrospective tone
of the author.
4.
Do pay attention to the implied
meaning and try practice guessing implied meaning and analyze small passages.
5.
You should not develop habit of
learning new words randomly. You are supposed to read news articles on
financial and economic issues. From these articles, do learn new difficult
words and do notice its usage and meaning in the sentences.(Also it will give you insight of LATEST IBPS PO EXAM PATTERN).
Cloze test/ Double Fillers/ Fill in the Blanks :
1.
You should make yourself familiar
with perfect tenses. The students should remember that all sentences with
auxiliary verb have had or has is a sentence in perfect tense and the verb must
always be in the V3 form.

rules of prepositions like preposition is always followed by a noun and only an

stress on Subject-Verb Agreement (SVA). It will be helpful in error correction
and detection.
2. You should make yourself
recognizable with perfect tenses and students should remember that all sentences
with auxiliary verb have had or has is a sentence in perfect tense and the verb
must always be in the V3 form. It is very important rule to remember in solving
fill in the blank and error detection question types.
3. You should always remember that a modal verb (can, could,
should, might, may, etc.) is always followed by the verb in its first
form.
4. You should
always remember that an article is always followed by a noun and only an
adjective can be placed between the two. This rule will be of great help in
answering fill in the blank questions and cloze test.
